Monday night, I had my first movie going experience...corn free! I, of course, snuck in my own snacks. I had some Kosher for Passover marshmallows and dark chocolate. I also snuck in a bottle of Sierra Mist Natural, thinking it was safe. Well, you can see where that is going, I said "thinking it was safe".
There was a large group of us watching Insidious, which was super scary! I am good on scary movies for at least the next six months!!! Since going to the movies, I am pretty sure I am now allergic to horror movies, and have been all my life, ha! After waiting for everyone to get their favorite concessions (I was missing popcorn, Icee's, oh and then there was the coupon for Sour Patch Kids....), we headed to into the theatre. I was sitting next to Walley, who happened to be eating popcorn. You have no idea how much I wanted some....but I resisted.
By the end of the movie, my stomach was in pain. I will again spare you of details, but it wasn't good. I made it home, turned on EVERY light in my house, and took a shower. I had a hard time falling asleep, not only because I went to a horror movie or because every light in my house was still on, but because my stomach was killing me! According to my panel of experts (my corn forum is my safe haven, and since they are all allergic to corn or are the mother's of someone who is, they are my experts), after you become so corn free the popcorn in a theatre will bother you, or living in the middle of a corn field, or even to the point of the cow you are eating bothering you if it had been corn fed. I wasn't 100% sure if it was the popcorn in the air, or the soda that turned my stomach, until tonight, when I decided to try the soda on it's own. It was the soda! After just two drinks (no need to drink more than that if I am going to react) and about 15 minutes I could feel the difference, which means I have no safe soda anymore...Oh well....I shall be super skinny, and water isn't all that bad anyway! I think I might be allergic to horror movies though, I better cut them out of my lifestyle!
First of all, at least you now have an excuse not to pay the HIGH price of concessions. I feel part of your pain on the not being able to have popcorn. I can't have the oil they call butter, my lack of a gallbladder sends me into pain still. Sometimes I risk it. Second of all, you're ONE BRAVE woman, I could NOT watch a scary movie. Not even keeping the lights on after. I'm a wimp! I'm glad you've got your panel of experts though, if they can help save you from some pain, then that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteAwwh! :( I thought that Sierra Mist Natural would be okay since it's free of high-fructose corn syrup. But I just read that the citric acid they add (which makes citrus taste more citrus-ey) can be made from corn and not fruit! http://www.cornallergens.com/list/corn-allergen-ingredients.php
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what it was Sarah...either that or the scary movie!!!
